My Background & Clinical Experience
I received a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College in 1997.
Major coursework included:
Individual Counseling
Couples Therapy
Family Counseling
Group Counseling
Career Counseling
Theory and Philosophy of Counseling
Diagnosis and Treatment of Adult Disorders
Brief Therapies
Lifespan Development
Models of Addiction and Recovery
Institute of Addiction Study
Research Methods in Counseling
Assessment
Treatment of Eating Disorders
Mental Health Internship: Adult Psychopathology.
I also take 40 hours of continuing education training every two years.
Later in '97, I opened my private practice. At the same time, I began working as a psychiatric case-manager at Columbia River Mental Health Clinic in Vancouver, Washington. In that clinical setting, I helped adult clients with addictions and chronic mental illness for the next two years.
In 1999, I turned my full attention to private practice.
I chose to specialize in couples and marriage counseling because I believed that this was the area where I could have the most impact as a therapist. Not only does the health of each family figure largely in the health and success of its children, but I believe that our society also derives its strength and integrity from that of the family.
In this work, the issues of infidelity, anger and addiction to pornography and sex came up so frequently that years ago I decided to add these important areas of focus to my therapy practice. This choice has served to increase the rewards of my work and my ability to make a difference in my community.
